UNFOLD YOUR MAGIC OF TOUCH

THE BENEFITS OF THAI YOGA MASSAGE

More than just a massage for our physical body, Thai Yoga Massage has an abundance of benefits that work beyond the structural body, mind, form and matter. Thai massage is a self-healing meditative dance that brings us and the receiver back to the feeling of the nurturing, caring touch that we experienced as children. It promotes general health and well-being and works on many visible and invisible levels: on the physical body it can be used both preventive and therapeutic, but most importantly, it also works on a mental and emotional level as it promotes states of deep relaxation and awakens the ability of trusting and letting go.

THE BENEFITS OF LEARNING THAI YOGA MASSAGE

As Thai Massage students, when we immerse ourselves into learning this sacred, ancient healing art, there is a spiritual awakening and transformation taking place. In this course, life changing and self-healing processes can be started. When we come together as group (Sangha) of like-minded people with the same intention of learning, sharing and supporting each other, there is an uplifting energy that can bring you beyond your resources of energy.

As a Thai Yoga Massage Therapist, every Massage you will give can leave you mentally and emotionally more complete that you were before. On a physical level it is one of few massages, that keeps your own body healthy, as you will learn the body mechanics of gravity and the perfect fit.

THE COURSE

This course will promote you with an abundance of postures and techniques, that will enable you to give a complete 1,5 -2 h massage. Learning the sacred and ancient art of thai massage does not require any previous skills on body work or other massages. Your intention to learn and to heal is all you need to bring! More important than any technique is to discover our hand´s ability to feel and to listen, and to learn how our hands and our mind and the two bodies of receiver and giver become one.

Traditional Thai yoga massage can look back at a long history of therapeutic healing. If one traces the evolution of the techniques of healing-massage practiced in Thailand, one discovers the astonishing fact that the earliest roots of Thai massage lie not in Thailand but in India.
Looking back at the tradition of Thai massage it is very clear that it was never seen as a mere job. Massage was always considered to be a spiritual practice closely connected with the teachings of the Buddha. The giving of massage was understood to be a physical application of Metta, the Pali (and Thai) word used in Theravada Buddhism to denote ‘loving kindness’ – and devoted masseurs still work in such a spirit today.

PROGRAM & ITINERARY

Thai massage is so much more than just another massage. It is a tool that can help to heal. Yourself and your receivers. This ancient art is strongly connected to the teachings of Buddha, to the Dhamma. Therefore we will not only teach and learn the techniques you need to enable you to give a heavenly 1,5 – 2 h Thai Massage, but we will root our learning and practicing on the foundation of love and compassion, combining the learning sessions with meditation and chanting, with sharing circles, games and with daily morning yoga sessions to nurture your body, mind and soul.

LOCATION AND ACCOMMODATION * CORTIJO CASERIA DEL MERCADO

“Yoga begins in the present moment, and the present moment begins in silence.” – Michael Stone
This course takes place in the cottage “Cortijo Casería del Mercado” – a natural oasis of peace located 1250 meters high up in the Alpujarra mountains of Andalusia. This traditional Spanish country house that overlooks the whole beautiful valley is home to several friendly dogs and beautiful peacocks that stroll freely through its wonderful gardens which are abundant with healthy, organic vegetables, colorful flowers surrounded by expansive fields of almond, fig and olive trees. Memorable sundowners illuminate this beauty around you and your beauty within. Other features of the venue are:
*Spacious yoga shala with a spectacular mountain-view, shaded outdoor practice space
*Outdoor dining under a plant roof and indoors with a fireplace
*A pool with a shady lawn

The Alpujarra region is located between the Sierra Nevada and the Mediterranean Sea. Clean air and freshwater things for which it is renowned. The Cortijo itself is a calm and magical oasis amidst the vast openness of these remote lands where your heart will find peace.

For several generations up until now, the Cortijo has been an active place of production with many different buildings for many different uses and only a little extra room to spare for accommodation. Hence almost all rooms have shared bathrooms, some are only divided by curtains and some do not have windows, but we will spend most of the time outside anyway so the accommodation is mainly just for sleeping.
You have different options for accommodation – a mix of single, double and shared twin rooms the option to come with your own van or tent

FOOD

Proper nutrition is a fundamental base for a healthy and balanced life, that helps us to focus and concentrate; Vegetarian food is a part of a non-harming lifestyle.
You will enjoy three vegetarian homemade meals daily, prepared with passion and love, fresh, and nutritious. You will have unlimited access to tea and infusions. Food preparation is based on zero waste concept where all products are reused and become resources for others to use. Gluten free, nuts free, and sugar free menus are available if requested in advance.

HOW TO GET THERE

The Cortijo (the venue) is located high in the Alpujarra mountains close to a tiny village called Cástaras. Trevélez, known as the “highest town of Spain” (1476 m) is only 15 km away. The biggest town in the region is Órgiva, which is approximately 45 minutes drives away from the Cortijo. Órgiva is also the access town to the Alpujarra valley, coming from Granada or Màlaga, with some good bus connections. The closest airport is Granada. Malaga is the second best option.

If you do not rent a car, you will have to make your way to Órgiva by BUS arriving there at 5:30 p.m. at the latest. There we will pick you up and bring you to the Cortijo / Retreat (12 EUR per person).

Getting to Órgiva
To Granada there are less direct flights but from there it is easier to get to Órgiva (5 buses a day) and it is well worth a visit with the Alhambra and the Albaicín. Málaga is the main airport of all the Andalusian Mediterranean area as it is close to the very touristic Costa del Sol. Still quite unpopular, Málaga is a charming mediterranean city at the coast with a tranquil Spanish flair, city beaches, a huge tropical plants park, home of Picasso and a picturesque castle and is worth a visit if you wish to extend your stay or come some days earlier. Some people also fly to Seville for visiting this beautiful Andalusian city and take a bus to Granada from there…

BY BUS
ALSA (www.alsa.es) is a bus company that offers budget and punctual bus rides throughout Spain. The timetable can be checked here but the website shows connections only some weeks in advance (So do not check connections yet – be patient and trust. Spanish bus companies work perfectly, but not on the internet).

From Granada to Órgiva
Buses run five times a day from Granada to Órgiva for 5 EUR (one-way)

From Malaga to Órgiva
At the moment there are no more buses from Málaga to òrgiva directly. You have to take a bus to Granada, and then from there to òrgiva.

Don´t worry. Depending on the amount of people arriving in Málaga or Granada we will help you to organize the best possible and most economical option. We can do so about 1-2 weeks before the retreat.
Depending on where most people arrive, we can also organize you a taxi to share (150€ from Málaga, 100€ from Granada) so your trip is easier 🙂

CAR RENTAL
Another option is to rent a car: it is economical (about 70 EUR / week) and more flexible. We can offer to connect you with others retreat guests so you can share the ride and costs. You will not need a car once you are in the Cortijo but of course getting there and away requests less planning ahead and avoids being dependent on bus scedules. Also, you can visit Trevelez or other white villages when you bring your own car.
